Product exemptions under the DSCSA

Here are examples of products that are not included under the DSCSA:

  • Blood or blood components intended for transfusion
  • Radioactive drugs or radioactive biological products that are currently regulated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) or by the State under an agreement with the NRC
  • Medical devices
  • Imaging drugs
  • Medical gases
  • Intravenous products intended for the replenishment of fluids and electrolytes or calories
  • Intravenous products used to maintain the equilibrium of water and minerals in the body
  • Products intended for irrigation, or sterile water, whether intended for such purposes or for injection
  • Prescription drugs for animals 
  • Over the counter (OTC) products
