You may or may not have seen the new barcodes on some products. The Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) requires that pharmaceutical companies imprint this new “product identifier” on each drug product they introduce into the market. While the mandatory deadline for this barcode was moved to November 2018, manufacturers have already begun imprinting the new barcode on drug packages. This is called serialization.
Unfortunately, drug companies are not communicating these changes to their customers. This means unexpected, misplaced, incomplete, or unreadable barcodes are being shipped to and received by dispensers. Lack of accountability, missing data, or data verification can result in serious penalties, product loss, and non-compliance.
Significant product loss can be mitigated with product expiry, suspect/illegitimate, and recall management provided by our web-based solution. Scanning the new barcode and electronically communicating with your partners can be done today with InfiniTrak.
